How to Get a Driving Licence - Category A1
If you have attended a driving school, you can operate motorcycles with 125 ccm engines and 11 kW of power on an A1 license. You can also drive three-drive motor vehicles such as trikes.
You can get an A1 driver's license from the age of 16. You must pass the theory test as well as an actual test.
What is my driving ability?
With an A1 license, you are able to ride on three-wheeled or two-wheeled mopeds. They have an engine size up to 125cc and an output of 11kW. A motor tricycle can be driven using this license, provided that it has an output of not more than 15kW. This licence also permits the driver to operate mopeds with trailers.
If you wish to ride a more powerful motorcycle you'll need a category AM licence instead. This permits motorcycles with a capacity of cylinders up to 125cc and whose power output is not more than 35 kW.
Drivers who hold a category C license (which they can obtain after passing the CPC four-part test) are allowed to drive large goods vehicles with 3,500kg maximum. This is a lot heavier than the majority of cars and that means you will have to be capable of towing quite some distance.
This category is less limiting than Category C. You can tow trailers up to 750kg with this license. This is a great method to gain experience driving larger vehicles before taking on the full category C test, which is required for those looking to drive HGVs.
Anyone who has experience in the less powerful categories A and A1 will find it much easier to pass the test for category A2, which allows the use of motorbikes that are light with a power output of up to 35kW. This is referred to as 'grandfathering', and it was developed to help people to learn about smaller vehicles before they attempt to drive more powerful ones. If you have two years of experience driving category A1 motorcycles, you can bypass the theory and practice test and only undergo a skills assessment. The test will be conducted by a reputable training institution. Ideally, this will be a professional driving school that has qualified instructors who can show you how to safely and confidently on the road. The driving lessons will help you to familiarize yourself with the vehicle you're learning to drive and also teach you the required traffic regulations.
Age requirements for seniors
In a majority of countries, the minimum age at which you can obtain a driver's license is between 16 and 18 years old. After that, a graduated licensing scheme applies. Based on the class of license, it may be necessary to pass a written and/or physical test before being granted an authorization.
Category A1 entitles drivers to drive motor vehicles with no more than 9 seats and with an allowed mass not exceeding 3,500 kilograms (7,700 lbs). This includes mopeds (motorcycles that have a displacement of up to 125 cc and an output of up to 11 kW) and motor tricycles.
A1 subcategory licences can be used to operate quad motorcycles as long as they have a capacity of less than 250 cc, and a power rating of less than 15 kW. You are only able to obtain a category A1 driving licence as your first motorcycle licence or if you already hold an official motorcycle licence in another category (category B, A2 or A).
Before you can get a permit to drive, you must pass a theory test. There are many ways to prepare by taking the training course at driving schools or self-learning courses.

Once you're ready, you can take the theory test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you must be able to score at least 42 marks. If you are younger than 16 years old, you must have an adult accompany you on the test.
You will receive a driver's permit that is valid for two years if you pass the theory exam. The permit must be carried at all times while driving in a car. You can apply for a driving licence at the age of 17.

Practical test

Getting an A1 driving license allows you to drive cars with the maximum mass authorized (MAM) of 8,250kg. You can also drive a trailer combination that weighs up to 750kg.
